Foreclosures have devastating impacts on borrowers, damaging their ability to secure credit in the future. Foreclosed properties can also generate a vicious cycle of deterioration in a concentrated geographic area and impose direct and indirect costs on local communities.
Servicers, counselors, insurers, policymakers and community leaders are working hard to develop intervention strategies that can prevent or mitigate the negative effects of foreclosure on households and communities. To help with this effort, NeighborWorks America and the NeighborWorks Center for Homeownership Education and Counseling (NCHEC) convened a symposium at the NeighborWorks Training Institute in Washington, DC in August to share and discuss the industry's cutting-edge research and strategies.
