Mobile Courses
These courses incorporate local awareness and real-life case studies to bring your community development learning to life.
CB180 Community Engagement: A Mobile Workshop
To supplement your classroom learning in community development, join us for an in-depth look at community development in action, with our NTI host city as the model. Come spend the day "on the road" - in a mobile workshop - interacting with residents, city representatives, policy makers, business leaders and others key to the community engagement process. You'll come back with a deeper understanding of how this city works, how things get done, and with concrete, replicable and adaptable examples you can use in your own city. You will experience not only what works in this city's community building, community organizing and community leadership culture, but also have the opportunity to interact with some of the people who have been critical change agents. We'll be eating at a neighborhood location, so bring money to cover your lunch. (And wear comfortable shoes - we'll be walking!)
CP133 Adventures in Factory-Built Housing: A Mobile Workshop
For affordable housing developers and practitioners who are ready to investigate and implement all that factory housing has to offer, here is an exciting one-day field-based experience you can't miss. After brief introductions in the classroom we will spend the day "on tour" visiting local outstanding sites that showcase various types and styles of factory built housing utilized in the region. Tour sites will offer a variety of options dependent on location. Options will include factory visits, site visits for different styles of factory built housing, sub-division development, in-fill new construction and the like. Learn about specific successful approaches to utilizing factory built housing for your projects and in your programs. Get an up-close look at uses of the latest materials and methods in factgory built housing. This one-day session is designed for construction managers, single family housing developers, project managers and other nonprofit staff designing and managing affordable housing development.
