Reaching Rural America
In 2004, NeighborWorks America pledged to invest more than $1 billion in rural communities across America by 2005 – an investment grounded in the ongoing activities of the NeighborWorks Rural Initiative. Launched in 2000, the Rural Initiative supports the housing and economic development activities of chartered NeighborWorks organizations serving rural America.
This investment assists more than 32,000 families with financial counseling, new home purchases, repairs to existing homes, economic development and job creation, new and improved units of affordable rental housing, and much-needed community facilities.
A primary strategy of the Rural Initiative is to develop and offer a specialized set of courses that specifically address the needs of practitioners working in rural communities.
