Complimentary Capacity Assessments

See below for information on how to obtain a complimentary organizational capacity assessment.

The Capacity Building Initiative will help the CDFI Fund achieve its mission by ensuring CDFIs have the capacity to meet the needs in their communities.

The CDFI Fund's CDFI Capitalization series, provided by NeighborWorks America, will help CDFIs learn strategies and techniques for increasing their capitalization and improving their liquidity. Participants will have access to training, technical assistance, organizational assessments, and an online resource bank.

The series will include:

    • Webinars: In addition to the two-day training courses listed above, the following webinars will be offered as part of this program:

      • Loan Policies and Procedures
      • Managing Troubled Assets
      • Risk-Assessing Your Organization
      • Raising Debt and Equity from External Sources
    • Technical Assistance: Participants will be eligible to receive free technical assistance based on need. Types of technical assistance you may request include:

      • Financial modeling of your CDFI to understand the impacts of decisions you make about loan product design, staffing, capitalization and other key factors
      • An assessment of your organization's risk and portfolio management practices, and liquidity and capitalization strategies
      • Other tailored assistance around portfolio management or capitalization challenges your organization is facing

In order to serve as many CDFIs as possible, free technical assistance is limited in scope. To sign up, please contact project manager Jack Northrup to receive an application. You can reach Jack via email at jack@nemarketresearch.com or by phone at (802) 233-6701.

In addition, participants taking ML375 Advanced Financial Analysis for a Sustainable Mission: Pricing, Funding and Management of Loans and Development Assets will receive access to course software that will enable them to run multiple scenarios on the asset and liabilities structures in their own organizations. The software will remain available to program participants after they have completed the training.

    • Organizational Capacity Assessments: Up to ten CDFIs will be eligible to receive complimentary organizational capacity assessments. The valuable capacity assessment tool will provide an organizational assessment process for CDFIs to help promote and maintain productive, well-managed, and high quality community lending programs. To learn more about the capacity assessments, download an informational flier. To apply for an assessment, download the application form.
