|"I attended the HO345rq Foreclosure Intervention and Default Counseling, Part I. It was most excellent. The depth of experience and knowledge the instructors possessed was impressive.
|As someone who possesses a teaching credential and has taught adults for twelve years before getting into mortgage and counseling, I was impressed with their delivery and the engaging technique and participation they encouraged."

Training and Certification
NCHEC offers a variety of venues and opportunities for continuing education and certification for homeownership practitioners. We work in partnership with HUD and other entities to offer high-quality training that provides timely, comprehensive and accurate information to industry professionals.
NCHEC training and certification enables participants to heighten their proficiency, stay on top of industry trends and understand the tools available to them to assist their clients.
We offer NCHEC certification in five subject areas, and a Professional Certificate Program in Homeownership and Community Lending.

Specific NCHEC training and certification topics and venues include:
The NeighborWorks Training Institute is known as the nation’s leading provider of training in affordable housing and community development. The NTI offers four national training institutes each year, in addition to a wide selection of smaller place-based trainings and other opportunities. We offer more than 100 courses in the subject areas of Homeownership and Community Lending, Affordable Housing, Community and Neighborhood Revitalization, Construction and Production, Management and Leadership and more.
The National Foreclosure Mitigation Counseling program offers training in mortgage foreclosure and default mitigation counseling to equip counselors with the information and tools they need to help consumers avoid foreclosure. This training is available at national NeighborWorks Training Institutes, at local place-based trainings and via three online courses.
Place-Based Training (PBT)
In addition to national NeighborWorks Training Institutes and online learning, NCHEC offers local and regional place-based training courses. These courses are provided by request and with support from partner organizations. Your organization may want to sponsor a PBT.
Through a grant from HUD, NCHEC provides training and technical assistance to active and prospective HECM (reverse mortgage) counselors at the website www.HECMCounselors.org.
NCHEC offers five certifications for homeownership practitioners: Pre-Purchase Homeownership Education, Post-Purchase Homeownership Education, Homeownership Counseling, Foreclosure Intervention and Default Counseling, and Homeownership Counseling for Program Managers and Executive Directors. Each certification meets the requirements of the National Industry Standards for Homeownership Education and Counseling. (These certifications are distinct from the NeighborWorks Training Institute’s Professional Certificate Program, although there is some coursework overlap.)
Professional Certificate in Homeownership and Community Lending
Homeownership and Community Lending is one of several specialty areas for which the NeighborWorks Training Institute offers Professional Certificate Programs. The program consists of a series of courses that together provide the specialized tools and technical skills necessary to design and implement successful homeownership initiatives.
