NeighborWorks Center for Homeownership Education and Counseling (NCHEC)
NCHEC/HUD Training Program
Through the NCHEC/HUD Training Program, tuition scholarships are available to attend the NeighborWorks Training Institutes (NTIs) and NCHEC/HUD-sponsored regional place-based trainings (PBTs). A limited number of lodging and travel stipends are also available.
Eligibility for NCHEC/HUD Program:
- Must be staff of a HUD-Approved Housing Counseling Agency. This includes affiliates of National Intermediaries or staff from Locally Approved Housing Counseling Agencies.
- Eligibility is confirmed based on a valid HUD ID number, which must be indicated when applying for scholarships and registering for training events. This will be cross-referenced with agencies listed in HUD’s HCS.
- Each agency may receive up to ONE scholarship during a given year (subject to demand and availability, additional scholarships may be available).
Tuition scholarships are available to HUD-approved housing counseling agencies specifically to attend a NeighborWorks Training Institute. Tuition scholarships are offered for all NTIs, which cover the cost of registration. A limited number of lodging and travel stipends are also available.
HUD Regional Place-Based Training
Tuition and lodging scholarships are available specifically for staff of HUD-approved housing counseling agencies. HUD regional PBTs are local versions of our national training held in many cities across the country. Each event consists of up to nine NCHEC courses in homeownership and community lending.
2011 HUD Place-Based Training Dates and Locations:
| June 24-24, 2011 | Charleston, SC |
| July 11-15, 2011 | Philadelphia, PA |
| July 25-29, 2011 | Salt Lake City, UT |
| November 14-18, 2011 | Sacramento, CA |
Scholarships are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.
All applications must be received by the posted deadline using the online scholarship application system at www.nw.org/scholarships. Applications must be completed with all requested information. Successful completion of all pre-requisite exams, if applicable, must be satisfied before an application can be considered. Pre-requisite exams may be taken up to two times.
If a scholarship is awarded, the participant is automatically registered for the event and a notification of the award is sent with instructions and detailed information. If unable to attend, the participant should notify NCHEC immediately to provide an opportunity for another applicant and avoid no-show penalties.
Intermediary Place-Based Training
Training opportunities are available to sub-grantees of HUD Housing Counseling Intermediaries. Contact your HUD Intermediary for more information.
