The NeighborWorks® Center for Homeownership Education and Counseling (NCHEC) working with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) are providing regional place-based training (PBT) to the staff and housing counselors of HUD-Approved housing counseling agencies.
Who is eligible?
- Must be staff of a HUD-Approved Housing Counseling Agency. This includes affiliates of National Intermediaries or staff from Locally Approved Housing Counseling Agencies.
- Eligibility will be confirmed based on a valid HUD ID number, which must be indicated when applying for scholarships and registering for training events. This will be cross-referenced with agencies listed in HUD’s HCS.
- Each agency may receive ONE scholarship during 2008 (subject to demand and availability, additional scholarships may become available on a case-by-case basis).
How do I apply?
HUD co-sponsored, place-based training events are only open to scholarship recipients. In order to apply, go to www.nw.org/scholarships. You will need to provide your 5-digit HUD-approved housing counseling agency number and complete a scholarship application form. Application forms are available only for the next training location on the schedule. See location and dates schedule to download available scholarship applications.
Which specific courses will be offered at the regional PBTs?
The agreement between HUD and NeighborWorks America covers a select number of courses in the Homeownership and Community Lending content area. Below is a list of the available courses to be offered at regional PBTs. Please note, generally only 1-2 courses will be taught during a regional PBT.
How do I know if I’ve been awarded a travel/lodging stipend?
Applicants will be notified of award decisions via fax, e-mail or phone. Recipients will have one week to accept the award in writing. A limited number of stipends will be available.
Are there any other future training opportunities I should be aware of?
Additional training opportunities are available at NeighborWorks Training Institutes and various regional events. Detailed information is posted on the NeighborWorks Training and Events Calendar and the HUD Web site, www.hud.gov.
