Instructor Name: joseph chavez

Joseph Chavez has been involved in housing for over 25 years. As an undergraduate student at the University of Massachusetts (Boston), he worked in the construction industry and became a licensed general contractor for the state of Massachusetts.

Chavez graduated from UMass Boston with a degree in accounting. However, he decided to switch careers to the housing and construction industry because of the impact his work had on people’s lives. His work has provided the opportunity to work on securing housing for more than 100 families in the Boston area. He helped develop 30 units of affordable housing, rehabbed properties and counseled hundreds of first-time home buyers.

Chavez continued to pursue his education by completing graduate programs at Harvard University and Boston University, as well as a Doctoral degree in Public Administration from Nova Southeastern University (NSU) in Florida.

Currently, he is a real estate consultant, a professor at NSU and a lending broker in residential and commercial real estate financing. His passion for this work has led him to co-partner with several banks to create loan products for first-time home buyers. Dr. Chavez is the president of The National Housing Advisory Group, LLC, a consulting firm he owns and operates. He has taught a full menu of classes for NCHEC in both English and Spanish.
