Instructor Name: Doug Foster
 
Doug Foster has worked with GIS since 1988, both as a user of GIS software and developer of desktop and online GIS software, including MapInfo, MapBasic, ArcView, Avenue, MapXtreme, ArcIMS, Maptitude, etc. He worked for ten years for the City of Ithaca, New York, both as a planner and manager of the city’s GIS program. For the City, he developed what may be the first online GIS site where users can access local property data, photographs of homes, detailed maps, and other data such as street trees, hydrants, and high resolution aerial photography. He also worked for four years with a marketing team doing customer geosegmentation for clients such as Borders Books and Pottery Barn. He holds an MS in Regional Planning from Cornell University, and got his BS degree from Amherst College. He has been a speaker on GIS at a variety fo events, including MapInfo’s MapWorld conference and the New York State GIS Conference.
