| Norma Miess is a program officer fo the National Trust Main Street Center. Previously, Norma was the executive director for the Downtown Neighborhood Association of Elgin, a designated Main Street program in Illinois. During her tenure, she gained a national reputation for her workshops on increasing diversity in Main Street, in addition to her development and leadership of an outstanding local Main Street program.
Before finding her niche in Main Street, Norma was a civil engineer in her home country of Honduras. However, she soon created her own business, a heritage travel company that helped people from Georgia, Illinois, Utah and Wyoming learn more about the Meso-American cultures of Mexico and Central America. After Hurricane Mitch, she created a disaster recovery nonprofit that provided short-term relief to storm victims and long-term programming to improve the quality of life for Honduran communities. |
