This course is specifically designed for those who are working to serve the community development needs of rural areas. Case studies, exercises, lectures and examples developed specifically to illustrate the nuances of working in rural communities will be used. The rural specific content of this new course will highlight the best practices being used in rural community economic development in the United States today. Learn how your economic development program can make informed choices about tools and strategies such as loan programs, targeted real estate projects, job training programs or business incubators. It will also delve into the various challenges that economic development programs in rural areas encounter. This course may serve as a substitute for the Community Economic Development Principles, Practices and Strategies course offered in the Community Economic Development Program of Study.
