NA255 Culturally and Environmentally Responsive Design: Sustainable Native Communities Planning and Design Workshop
How can tribes create more sustainable housing and communities which foster and strengthen their traditions and culture while preserving and sustaining the natural environment? This workshop will offer ideas and challenge tribal members to rethink the way housing and communities are built on reservations and to begin envisioning a new kind of housing that reflects both ancient traditions and responds to climate while utilizing modern technologies and materials. Specific case studies that are examples of this kind of thinking will be explored. Participants will also examine existing projects, and learn about strategies to develop communities that meet or exceed both Enterprise Green Communities and LEED criteria. Day one of the training will focus on "planning and design" and day two will focus on "building and system performance". This training series is led by Enterprise Community Partners in conjunction with First Nation Oweesta Corporation, and is brought to you through funding from the U.S Department of Housing and Urban Development.
