ML166 What's Your Story: Communications for Action
A one-on-one with a City Councilor; a fund-raising letter; an advertising campaign to promote a service; a radio interview about your organization. No matter what the medium or the circumstance, every effective communication is based in a foundational story or perspective or frame, that shapes your message. This workshop shows participants how to • clarify and articulate their organization’s core story, built from the perspectives and values of their audiences, • use that frame to organize all communications resources to get somebody to do something. For experienced leaders and newcomers alike, this workshop demonstrates how values-based, mobilizing messages can build organization-wide clarity and strengthen alliances with other businesses, non-profits and government agencies. Objectives: Participants will recognize and question some of the assumptions that shape their current communications. practice using a broad, community perspective to re-frame their organization and programs. learn to apply critical questions to all communications efforts, to focus those efforts on getting action.
