HO265el Counseling Clients Seeking Rental Housing
Have you provided homeownership counseling to clients only to discover that renting may be a better option for them? Have you had clients come into your organization seeking housing after they have lost their home to foreclosure? In this online course participants learn how to counsel clients on such things as avoiding discrimination and addressing tenant/landlord issues such as deposits, procedures for handling health and safety repairs, tenant remedies and foreclosure-related issues.

Counseling Clients Seeking Rental Housing is an online learning experience which provides key knowledge, skills and competencies to provide high quality rental counseling to consumers. In the current economic environment, there is increasing demand for rental counseling from first-time renters, families being displaced by foreclosures and households downsizing their housing to save money. The course first outlines recent trends and the key advantages to rental, next the role of the rental counselor is defined, and then key steps in the rental process are described. The course concludes with important information on tenant and landlord obligations.

This e-learning course offered by NeighborWorks America is intended for counselors who have 6 months or more of housing counseling experience.

Specifically, those who have completed any of the prepurchase or foreclosure counseling courses are encouraged to complete HO265EL. For counselors who have less than 6 months of counseling experience, Introduction to Housing Counseling (HO110) is highly recommended prior to taking this course.
