HO120 Counseling Clients to Recognize Fair Lending Abuse and Mortgage Fraud
This course provides the skills and knowledge homeownership counselors need to counsel clients about fair housing and lending laws and recognize potential lending abuses and mortgage fraud. Specifically, homeownership counselors will learn how to discuss and explain to clients the requirements of key fair lending laws. Using this core knowledge, homeownership counselors will be able to identify major irregularities in the mortgage lending process. Counselors will analyze sample case studies with mortgage documents to identify red flags and instances of possible mortgage fraud. Counselors also will learn how to provide guidance and assistance to clients in need of filing a formal complaint and/or pursuing a formal investigation with appropriate authorities under the laws covered in this course.
