ED230 Capacity Building for Microenterprise Development Organizations
Successful microenterprises not only increase wealth for their owners but also provide a vital source of products and services for consumers who live in rural, urban, and suburban communities of all sizes. Microenterprises also can be risky undertakings, as their success is never assured. One key for the development of successful microenterprises is the existence of support systems from community organizations. These support systems include access to capital as well as technical assistance. This two-day course will focus on proven strategies that have been employed in successful microenterprises development programs. In particular, emphasis will be placed on efficiency and sustainability and the ways in which successful programs have become institutionalized for the benefit of clients and community economic development efforts. This course will also include an examination of a successful microenterprise development program from the local community, including presentations from local microenterprises owners.
