ED181 Making Development Benefit CommunitiesAs development changes the face of our communities, low to moderate income residents are often left out of the decision-making and planning process. This type of development often results in displacement and lack of opportunity for residents who have been in their communities for generations. Community benefits agreements offer one way for communities to set parameters for development in their neighborhood and to directly insert themselves into the development decision-making process. They can result in smart development outcomes such as increased access to well-paying jobs for local residents, greater opportunities for local businesses and new housing that is affordable to local residents. In this class you will learn how to look critically at development outcomes and processes, to determine what benefits to ask for, and how to organize a community benefits agreement that helps to hold developers and public entities accountable to creating truly community-based development.Course length: 2 Days Tuition: $ 460 Course counts toward a professional certificate: Yes |
