CP243 Building Healthy Homes

To be a healthy home today, construction practices must include innovative approaches to health, energy efficiency, environmental responsibility, accessibility and durability. Building on the issues and strategies learned in Intro to Healthy Homes(CP191), this course provides practical training in techniques to address these interconnected concerns —

HEALTH:
moisture management, ventilation and materials;
ENERGY CONSERVATION:
achieving good indoor air quality while reducing energy use, and proper design and sizing of HVAC;
ENVIRONMENT:
sensitivity to site, choice of materials and recycled content;
ACCESSIBILITY:
using universal design to prepare today's homes for tomorrow's mobility needs, and
DURABILITY:
building for long life and low maintenance.

CP191 is recommended as a prerequisite for this course, which has been designed for senior staff, housing developers and rehabilitation specialists.
