Green is a hot buzzword in the building industry today. With energy prices, global warming and air quality issues on the rise, organizations, policy makers and governments are looking to the rapidly growing housing industry for solutions. Residential Green Building provides the foundation for high performance, single-family, affordable housing construction that integrates green technologies creating an energy efficient, water conserving, healthy and durable home. The course covers the basics of building science and walks through applying the National Association of Home Builders, Green Building Guidelines to a project in order to achieve a green home. Case studies, visual aids, tools of the trade and hands-on product samples will be used to illustrate green building in action. Course Objective Participants will leave with a firm understanding of how houses work as a system and how to apply green building to their projects. They will be able to identify the aspects and applications of a green certification program, and understand how to prioritize green strategies on a tight budget. Emphasis will be placed on new construction, however many of the principles are applicable to rehab and will be discussed. Target Audience Residential Green Building is designed for the designers and construction staff of nonprofit housing developers. This course has been certified by BPI for 6 CEUs.
