Schoolyard Clean Up
December 10 • 1:00 - 5:00 p.m.
The New Orleans Recovery School District is working around the clock to get the schools reopened. Now you can make a difference! There will be a job for everyone from removing debris and cutting back overgrowth to raking leaves and cleaning playground equipment. Due to your dedication the children will have a safe place to play!
* Volunteers are asked to wear long pants and work shoes.
KaBOOM! Playground
December 12 • 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
NeighborWorks America has partnered with KaBOOM! to build a playground at Pierre A. Capdau in the Eighth Ward. Be a part of this one-day building blitz and transform an empty lot into a new, fun place for New Orleans kids to swing, slide, leap, laugh and PLAY! It’s an old-fashioned barn-raising with a playful twist—in less than 6 hours.
*Volunteers are asked to wear comfortable work cloths and tennis shoes.
Operation Helping Hands - House Gutting
December 14 • 8:30 a.m.- 4:00 p.m.
The real thing! What do you have a year after more than 100,000 houses flood? Thousands of houses left to be gutted for later rehab work! NeighborWorks America has partnered with Catholic Charities’ Helping Hands Program on this activity. With the homeowner present, volunteers will remove all furnishings then if necessary remove damaged walls, ceilings, floors, and cabinets. Volunteers should have had a tetanus shot in the last 10 years. Helping Hands will furnish work gloves, goggles, masks, Tyvek suits and hard hats.
*Volunteers are asked to wear long sleeve shirts, long pants and work boots.
Paint The Porch Seventh Ward Cultural Center THIS ACTIVITY IS FULL!
December 14 • 8:30 a.m.- 4:00 p.m.
Painters wanted! After Hurricane Katrina, Neighborhood Housing Services of New Orleans acquired a historic corner grocery store building to convert into a gathering place for the Seventh Ward community. Be a part of putting on the finishing touches by helping paint the exterior of the building. Only 20 painters are needed, this activity is on a first-come, first serve basis.
*Volunteers are asked to wear clothes to paint in.
