How to Sign Up to Be a Volunteer

Things you need to know to become a volunteer in New Orleans:

Because space is limited, most volunteer opportunities will be limited to the first 150 participants to sign up per volunteer day. Participants will receive confirmation in advance if they are among the first 150 per day and are included in the effort.

Participants must register for the volunteer opportunity as they would for a class using the registration forms listed in the course catalog or online.

NeighborWorks America will provide transportation, refreshments and any necessary supplies. Box lunches will be included on Tuesday and Thursday. Your $20 registration fee for the Sunday opportunity or $40 registration fee for the Tuesday or Thursday opportunities will help offset costs associated with the volunteer activity. Participants from NeighborWorks organizations may sign up for a volunteer opportunity at no additional cost.

Interested attendees should pick only one of the following volunteer opportunities:

  • Schoolyard Clean Up -- Sunday, December 10 (1 - 5 p.m.)
  • KaBOOM! Playground -- Tuesday, December 12 (8:30 a.m. - 4 p.m.)
  • Paint the Porch -- Thursday, December 14 (8:30 a.m. - 4 p.m.) FULL!
  • Operation Helping Hands -- Thursday, December 14 (8:30 a.m. - 4 p.m.)

On your volunteer activity date, a bus will transport you from the hotel on a guided tour of some of the most highly impacted New Orleans neighborhoods. Following the tour, you will be taken to the volunteer activity site.

NeighborWorks organization participants signing up for the Sunday activity will be allowed to arrive in New Orleans on Saturday, December 9.

We hope you will consider participating in this exciting and rewarding opportunity. If you have questions about the volunteer opportunities, please call (800) 438-5547 or e-mail nti@nw.org.
