Application Process

Program Objectives

  • Attract qualified students from Harvard’s graduate-level professional programs to the community and economic development fields
  • Introduce the NeighborWorks Network to future leaders in law, business and government
  • Accomplish high-quality, short-term, analytical projects

Qualified Candidates and Expectations

  • Harvard students not in their graduating year in law, business, economics, planning or public policy, administration, and education programs
  • Should have commitment to and knowledge of the community and economic development fields
  • Must be entrepreneurial and committed to co-developing, leading and completing a minimum 10-week analytical project (full-time)

Fellowship Benefits

  • $8,000 compensation, plus travel and research expenses
  • Enrollment in the NeighborWorks America Training Institute with all expenses paid – tuition, travel/lodging and related expenses
  • Project mentoring by faculty of the Joint Center for Housing Studies of Harvard University
  • Potential for publication of project as part of Joint Center Working Paper Series
  • Opportunity to present findings in Washington, D.C., at a policy briefing arranged by the Joint Center with key policymakers and practitioners
  • 10 weeks use of office space at NeighborWorks America

Application Process

  • Please answer the following three questions in a cover letter:
    1. How have your past professional and educational experiences prepared you for this fellowship opportunity?
    2. What interests you most about this opportunity and what do you hope to learn?
    3. Why does the field of community and economic development interest you?

  • References: Please provide two letters of reference. We suggest one from a faculty member and one from a professional affiliate in the community or economic development field.
  • Enclose a resume: with current address, phone and e-mail address.
