FDIC Chair Sheila Bair Honored by Neighborhood Housing Services of Chicago

FDIC Chair Sheila Bair gets NHS of Chicago Award
NHS of Chicago Executive Director Bruce Gottschall presents Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation Chair Sheila C. Bair, with the 2008 Gale Cincotta Award.

NeighborWorks America member organization Neighborhood Housing Services (NHS) of Chicago honored Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) Chair Sheila C. Bair, with the 2008 Gale Cincotta Award at a March 26 Annual Awards Dinner. The award was presented by NHS of Chicago Executive Director Bruce Gottschall.

This prestigious award was presented to Bair for her national leadership during the foreclosure crisis, creating effective solutions to foreclosure, fighting for a plan to sustain homeownership and making sound credit available.

The Gail Cincotta Award was established in 1990 to honor outstanding leadership in the effort to rebuild urban neighborhoods. In 2001, with the passing of Gale Cincotta, a leader in community development, and a founding board member of the NHS, the name of the NHS’s top award was changed to honor her legacy of advocacy and inspirational leadership on behalf of affordable housing.

“Gale truly inspired others with her tenacity and gave them the courage to also defend their neighborhoods,” said Gottschall.

At the same event, NHS announced that they have "successfully completed the formation of a $135 million loan pool for three years that will continue the NHS long-standing tradition of being an affordable housing lender in Chicago."
