2006 NeighborWorks® Government Service Award Winners

NeighborWorks Government Service Award

The annual NeighborWorks Government Service Award recognizes and honors elected or appointed public officials who have made significant contributions to improving the lives of the people in their communities.

Award winners have achieved substantive accomplishments that include the initiation and implementation of public policies or programs that strengthen communities or expand the supply of affordable housing.  They are in touch with their constituents – listening to their opinions about what’s best for their communities and working together with them to implement strategies and policies that work.  Their demonstrated commitment and dedication makes them stand out as leaders in touch with the people they serve.

Awardees’ areas of achievement may include public policy formation; educational initiatives; increased collaboration between governmental entities; increased communication with, and involvement by, constituents; and establishment of local, state, or national programs that strengthen communities and/or expand the supply of affordable housing.

The award is given to one government official at each level – local, state and federal.  There is an additional Lifetime Achievement Award to recognize extraordinary contributions of an individual.
