NeighborWorks Adds Community Stabilization Courses to Online Learning Center
Washington, D.C. – Today NeighborWorks America, the nation’s leading trainer of community development professionals, announced that it has added community stabilization courses to the roster of courses offered through its online learning center. The new stabilization e-learning courses come at a time when nonprofit organizations need access to online training most, as housing and community development nonprofits prepare to stabilize their communities with the help of recently announced second round Neighborhood Stabilization Program funding.
“Much like the foreclosure crisis increased the demand for certified foreclosure intervention counselors, the homes left vacant in the wake of the foreclosure crisis are threatening our communities, and increasing the demand for trained community development and housing nonprofit professionals who have the knowledge and experience to re-stabilize their neighborhoods,” said Ken Wade, CEO of NeighborWorks America.
The need for nonprofit expertise couldn’t be more evident: NeighborWorks recently announced that 19 local NeighborWorks organizations, along with their local, regional and state partners, were awarded over $548 million -- or 27% of the total $1.93 billion awarded in the second round of Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP) funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
As the funding is distributed to the NSP grantees, nonprofits and their partners will hit the ground running, leaving less time to participate in education and training opportunities away from their communities. NeighborWorks’ online learning center offers nonprofit professionals the opportunity to participate in NeighborWorks’ renowned training program conveniently from their home or office.
The new community stabilization courses offered through NeighborWorks online learning center are:
- Stabilizing Neighborhoods in a Post-Foreclosure Environment
- Community Stabilization: An Introduction to REO Acquisition, Rehab, Disposition and Management
- Fundamentals of Asset Management
Currently NeighborWorks offers 10 e-learning courses, and plans to add six courses in 2010. Since the online learning center launched in May 2008, 3,864 professionals have completed NeighborWorks’ e-learning courses.
