NeighborWorks America Honors Los Alamos National Bank’s William C. Enloe
with 2009 NeighborWorks Business Leadership Award
Santa Fe Business Leader Receives National Award for Contributions to Affordable Housing

Washington D.C.—NeighborWorks America announced William C. Enloe, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Los Alamos National Bank in Santa Fe, N.M., recipient of the 2009 NeighborWorks Business Leadership Award.  Launched in 2007, the NeighborWorks Business Leadership Award recognizes an outstanding community volunteer from the private sector each year.  Recipients are honored for their contributions to the goals and success of the local NeighborWorks organization and to the NeighborWorks network. 

“Through his volunteerism and demonstrated commitment to affordable homeownership opportunities and economic development, Bill Enloe has made significant contributions that have strengthened Santa Fe’s communities,” said Ken Wade, CEO of NeighborWorks America. “His efforts serve as an inspiration to others.” 

Mr. Enloe is dedicated to his community and to creating more affordable housing solutions in northern New Mexico. Mr. Enloe was directly involved in the development of an affordable housing subdivision in Santa Fe by assisting in establishing the necessary bond and by approving Los Alamos National Bank (LANB) loans for developers within the subdivision.  

Mr. Enloe was instrumental in enabling Homewise – a member of the NeighborWorks network – to provide second mortgages to clients so that they may reduce the down payments required for affordable home purchases.  As a member of the Downtown Master Plan Committee and the Los Alamos Housing Authority Board, Mr. Enloe worked to establish goals and policies for affordable housing in Los Alamos and provide affordable housing for teachers, police and public servants.  Most recently, Mr. Enloe partnered with Homewise to develop a homebuyer program for LANB employees through Homewise’s employer-assisted housing campaign.

In addition to supporting affordable housing opportunities in Los Alamos, Mr. Enloe is involved in initiatives to stimulate economic growth throughout New Mexico. As a former chairman of the New Mexico Economic Development Partnership, member of the ACI State Economic Development and member of the State Investment Council – Advisory Committee, Mr. Enloe has actively worked to develop and increase jobs in New Mexico, promote business-friendly legislation in the state, attract new businesses to the state and invest state funds in corporations that establish facilities within New Mexico.

Above all, Mr. Enloe is firmly connected to his community and the families LANB serves.  In May 2000, after the Cerro Grande fire – a devastating forest fire that caused 400 Los Alamos families to lose their homes – Mr. Enloe placed a moratorium on mortgage payments until the homes lost in the fire were rebuilt, and negotiated a similar moratorium with Fannie Mae.

Mr. Enloe’s integrity, forward-thinking perspective and connection to his community have been instrumental to the growth of northern New Mexico communities like Santa Fe and Los Alamos. These characteristics continue to make him a successful leader in his community and throughout New Mexico.
