Washington, D.C., Nonprofit Joins NeighborWorks Network

 

June 19, 2006—The Marshall Heights Community Development Organization (MHCDO), a newly charted NeighborWorks® network organization held three events during NeighborWorks Week. They hosted a housing fair, held a volunteer event with Home Depot and capped off the week’s activities on Saturday June 10, with NeighborWorks America board members— including the Comptroller of the Currency John C. Dugan and some of his staff, painting transitional family housing apartments. During a lunch following the volunteer activity, NeighborWorks officers officially inducted MHCDO into the Network of Excellence.

MHCDO has successfully developed on its own or in partnership a 60-unit supportive housing facility, a 469-unit garden-style apartment complex, 220,000 square feet of retail/office space, 20,000 square feet of warehouse/industrial space, and over 150 homes sold to low- and moderate-income buyers.

The Marshall Heights Community Development Organization (MHCDO) is a nonprofit community-based organization that has undertaken community development activities in the Ward 7 area of Washington, DC since 1979.
