Idaho Congressman Congratulates NHS/Boise
for #1 Home Ownership Production
October
15, 2003 -- Idaho Congressman C.L. "Butch" Otter
recently congratulated Neighborhood Housing Services/Boise for
being the number one homeownership producer in the five-year (1997-2002)
national NeighborWorks® Campaign for Home Ownership.
At a luncheon hosted by J. Craige Naylor, senior
deputy director of the Fannie Mae Partnership Office in Idaho,
Congressman Otter recognized the significant impact NHS/Boise's
Community Home Loan program staff has made throughout Idaho. During
the national five-year campaign, NHS/Boise helped 1,682 Idaho
families become homeowners, leveraging over $144 million in mortgage
dollars. Over the next ten years, these new homeowners will accumulate
approximately $65 million in equity to use for education, retirement,
medical care, and other uses, the NHS reported.
Nationally, the Campaign has emerged as one of the
most effective initiatives for creating affordable home ownership
opportunities for working families and has produced 47,648 new
homeowners and $4.53 billion in investment.
"There are more than 220 NeighborWorks organizations
across the country. Achieving this #1 status is very important
for our organization and reflects the commitment of our community
partners to create housing opportunities throughout Idaho,"
said NHS Executive Director Tom Lay. "We are very proud
of our lending professionals and the recognition they received
from Congressman Otter."
Doug Dylla, manager of the NeighborWorks Campaign
for Home Ownership, also congratulated Boise NHS for "their
remarkable statewide homeownership production in 2002."
"Boise NHS was the number one producer of new homeowners
in the NeighborWorks network in 2002 and has been an inspiration
to the rest of the network," he said.
