Neighborhood Finance Corporation of Des Moines Joins
NeighborWorks® Network

June 20, 2003 -- Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) was among more than 65 community
and government leaders who welcomed Neighborhood Finance Corporation (NFC) as the newest member of the NeighborWorks® network at an afternoon celebratory reception.

John Santner, Neighborhood Reinvestment’s North Central district director, presented Christine Hensley, NFC board president, with the NeighborWorks charter member certificate. Santer praised NFC’s past accomplishments, and expressed Neighborhood Reinvestment’s excitement with having NFC as the newest member of the NeighborWorks network.

Formed in 1990, NFC’s mission is to "provide and assist neighborhood revitalization in Polk County, Iowa by acting as a conduit for the flow of capital and information pursuant to the strategies and programs jointly developed by the neighborhood residents, city government, and NFC." Since its beginning, NFC has closed more than $100 million in loans for owner-occupied rehab, new construction, forgivable rehab subsidies and homeownership.

In FY 2002, NFC originated 161 loans valued at $11.6 million. Recently, NFC has added homebuyer education and a tool lending library to its portfolio of neighborhood revitalization programs and services.
