NeighborWorks America Names Debbie Matz Vice Chair to Board of Directors

Washington, DC – Today NeighborWorks America, a top community development organization, announced the appointment of Debbie Matz as vice chair to the board of directors. Matz replaces former board chair Christiane Gigi Hyland and succeeds Julie Williams as vice chair to the board of directors. Matz currently chairs the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) and fills NCUA’s seat on the NeighborWorks America board. She previously served as vice chair to the NeighborWorks America board of directors in 2004.

“I feel honored to return to the NeighborWorks America board and continue their outstanding work to ensure individuals and families have access to safe, affordable homes,” said Matz. “NeighborWorks America has grown tremendously since my first term on the board. Working with community development financial institutions and other leading community-based organizations, NeighborWorks America fulfills a vital mission and makes a lasting impact that benefits consumers and our nation’s economy.”

As vice board chair, Matz will support the board chair to provide strategic oversight in support of NeighborWorks America’s mission to create opportunities for people to live in affordable homes, improve their lives, and strengthen their communities. NeighborWorks America supports a network of more than 235 nonprofits, located in every state, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.

“Director Matz is a public service veteran who has tremendous Capitol Hill experience and oversees federally insured credit unions,” said NeighborWorks America CEO Eileen Fitzgerald. “Director Williams proved a committed leader in her role, and we thank her for the tremendous progress she helped our organization make.”

Determined by statute, NeighborWorks America’s board consists of the heads of the financial regulatory agencies and HUD, who are presidential appointees subject to Senate confirmation, or their statutorily designated representatives.

Sarah Bloom Raskin was elected board chair.
