NeighborWorks Training Institute Sustainability Courses for Nonprofits Draw Crowds

WASHINGTON, DC -- With less than two weeks to go before the next NeighborWorks Training Institute, courses designed to help nonprofits build homes with greater energy efficiency, develop housing near transit and transform homes into healthier places to live, are near capacity. The NeighborWorks Training Institute (NTI) is a week-long signature community development education event sponsored four times each year by NeighborWorks America, a national nonprofit corporation that creates opportunities for people to live in affordable homes, improve their lives and strengthen their communities. The next NTI is August 13-17 in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Among the dozens of community development courses offered at the NTI are seven cutting edge courses designed to help nonprofit and for-profit business leaders improve their ability to develop more energy efficient housing and healthier communities. Among these is the brand new course, The Nitty Gritty of Ventilation: A Breath of Fresh Air.

“The breadth of these courses illustrates the reality that sustainability isn’t just about energy efficiency,” said Paul Kealey, director of Training for NeighborWorks America. “NeighborWorks America recognizes that air quality, low- and no-waste home building and rehabilitation, community gardens in urban and suburban settings, and access to mass transit, and more are all part of the sustainability equation.”

In addition to The Nitty Gritty of Ventilation, the following sustainability courses are offered at the upcoming Cincinnati NeighborWorks Training Institute:

• Transit Oriented Development
• Green Building Fundamentals For Affordable Housing
• Integrating Green Building Into Multifamily
• Greening Housing Rehab
• Green Healthy Homes
• Taking Green Action In Your Community

Online registration for the NeighborWorks Training Institute is closed but on-site registration slots are available. To learn more, go to www.nw.org/training.
