NeighborWorks Week, New England District

The New England district of NeighborWorks America held a photo contest for NeighborWorks Week 2006. We had so many wonderful contest entries that it was very difficult to pick just one for the top prize. The top three winners are featured below. The eight runners up are featured in the New England district's Web section.

First prize: Laconia Area Community Land Trust, Laconia, New Hampshire
This image of Laconia 's kid's crew was the type of photo that highlighted all that NeighborWorks Week can be.  As Nancy McCurry said in her e-mail submission,  the children were some of the hardest working volunteers.  The photo shows two NeighborWorks Week "Projects in Progress" — the playground rehab and the development of the next generation of leaders.  Kudos to Laconia for a job well done!

Second Place: Affordable Housing Education and Development Inc. (AHEAD),
Littleton, New Hampshire

AHEAD's photo of a group of volunteers taking a quick break in their work, with ladders and siding at the ready.  AHEAD was able to recruit over 200 volunteers to work on five projects in five different communities, raising more than $10,000 in donated materials to assist with the work.  They sent many great photos but we felt this one was the best, showing a large number of volunteers with a very clear sense of the project in which they were involved.

Ahead Volunteers taking a break demonstrate unity and purpose on their job.

Third Place: NeighborWorks of Western Vermont (NWWVT), West Rutland, Vermont
We got lots of great group photos with signage, but this lender's lunch photo from NWWVT had the most participants in one shot, so they got the third prize.  We also thought their hammers held high was a great tribute to what our work is all about.

Lots of participants at the NeighborWorks Week of Western Vermont Lender's Lunch.
