A founding member of Neighborhood Housing Services of Bedford-Stuyvesant in Brooklyn, N.Y., Reginald Shell served as board president for six years and currently serves as the board’s treasurer. Throughout his years of dedicated service, Shell has effectively encouraged residents to become involved in community issues; and he has recruited many to leadership positions. Shell continuously seeks training through NeighborWorks America’s Community Leadership Institutes, where he not only participates, but also assists with planning the sessions. Shell exhibits his leadership spirit on numerous boards and committees throughout the New York City area, including the Coalition for the Improvement of Bedford-Stuyvesant, which convenes a variety of stakeholders, including elected officials, municipal agency officials, the community planning board, civic associations, and community-based organizations. Also a youth advocate, Shell has served as a senior Boy Scout leader for more than 20 years. As a Bedford-Stuyvesant homeowner, Shell wants everyone to have the opportunity to own a home, and he works diligently with NHS staff and board members to make these opportunities available. Shell’s outstanding example of leadership serves as a strong and respected voice in his community.
