Goals of the Dorothy Richardson Resident Leadership Award

  • To recognize and honor resident volunteer leaders who work to increase a diverse group of their peers as well as help develop their leadership skills in the communities in which they live and work
  • To inspire similar service in others
  • To showcase the NeighborWorks network’s effective and creative leadership talent

Selection Criteria
This is an individual award and the winners have:

  • Worked with a NeighborWorks organization to maintain the organization’s goals which  include a strong, continuing commitment to support and expand resident leadership. Additionally, the awardee’s work must be directly related to enhancing the organization’s  initiatives;
  • Demonstrated active involvement in the neighborhood;
  • Made significant impact on resident participation or community building and organizing in the NeighborWorks organization or community where the organization provides services;
  • Exemplified the impact and success of the NeighborWorks organization  (e.g., increased the number of active residents; developed partnerships with residents, governments and businesses; formed neighborhood associations or built effective relationships to bring together segments of the community; contributed significantly to either promoting foreclosure prevention or offering aid to a family and/or community that experienced the devastating effects of foreclosure).

Eligibility
Any resident that is affiliated with a NeighborWorks organization is eligible for nomination.

Nominations
Each NeighborWorks organization can nominate up to five candidates each year. The nomination process for 2008 is now closed. See the 2008 award winners.
