Windy Pearson’s interest in home ownership led to her involvement with NHSF, where she lived in a transitional living program. Although considered disabled due to a brain condition which has caused her blindness, she continues to persevere. After completing NHSF’s homebuyer education program, she purchased a house built in conjunction with a high school vocational program. She has been a perfect fit for the house and a neighborhood with a negative reputation by rallying her fellow neighbors to improve the neighborhood. Additionally, she has encouraged residents to be more assertive in combating and reporting criminal activity, which also brought her the respect of city and law enforcement officials. Lastly, she has been instrumental in securing the approximately $260,000 in funds necessary to re-open the Boys and Girls Club.
