About the Government Service Awards | 2011 Winners | Past Winners | Nomination Information
Nomination Information
In considering applications for the NeighborWorks Government Service Award, special consideration is given to local and state appointed officials who have made significant contributions to:
- Sustain homeownership or stabilize communities in the wake of the current subprime/foreclosure crisis;
- Prevent foreclosure scams and/or predatory lending and;
- Support and introduce “green” lifestyle initiatives.
Goals of the NeighborWorks Government Service Award
The goal of the NeighborWorks Government Service Award is to recognize and honor an appointed public official who has made significant contributions toward strengthening communities by:
- Spreading the word about the value of strengthening communities, expanding the affordable housing supply for low- and moderate-income families (rental and/or homeownership) and/or engaging in efforts to prevent foreclosures;
- Demonstrating the effectiveness of political leadership and public policies to strengthen communities by expanding the affordable housing supply, sustaining homeownership or stabilizing communities in the face of the current foreclosure crisis and/or supporting green lifestyle initiatives; and
- Inspiring similar service by others.
Eligibility
Any government appointed official on the local and state levels.
Selection Criteria
The award winners will have:
- Implemented public policies and/or programs that strengthen communities by expanding the affordable housing supply, sustaining homeownership or stabilizing communities in the face of the current foreclosure crisis and supporting green initiatives;
- Inspired leadership and involvement by public officials or citizens to strengthen communities by expanding affordable housing supply, sustaining homeownership or stabilizing communities in the face of the current foreclosure crisis and supporting green initiatives;
- Communicated regularly with constituents about strengthening communities, expanding the affordable housing supply, sustaining homeownership or stabilizing communities in the face of the current foreclosure crisis and support green initiatives;
- Demonstrated a personal commitment and a focus on strengthening communities by expanding the affordable housing supply, sustaining homeownership or stabilizing communities in the face of the current foreclosure crisis and supporting green initiatives;
Nominations
Each NeighborWorks organization can nominate up to three public officials each year to represent each category. The nominations process for 2011 is now closed. See who won!
