The Emergency Homeowners' Loan Program (EHLP)


For Counseling Agencies:

On June 17, 2011, grant awards were announced for 10 state housing finance agencies (HFAs), 11 HUD-approved housing counseling intermediaries, and 31 community-based NeighborWorks organizations as part of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Emergency Homeowners’ Loan Program (EHLP). The organizations will coordinate outreach functions, application intake and submissions, eligibility recertification, and transition counseling to eligible homeowners.

Who Does EHLP Assist?


The program is designed to provide mortgage payment relief to eligible homeowners experiencing a drop in income of at least 15% directly resulting from involuntary unemployment or underemployment due to adverse economic conditions and/or a medical emergency. Other EHLP requirements must be met to be eligible. More information

How Does EHLP Work?


The Emergency Homeowners’ Loan Program (EHLP) will offer a zero interest, forgivable bridge loan to homeowners who have experienced a substantial loss of income (a reduction of at least 15%) due to unemployment or underemployment caused by adverse economic conditions or a medical condition.
