NeighborWorks® America and the NeighborWorks Network are helping citizens on very low incomes become homeowners through its Housing Choice Voucher Homeownership Program (formerly known as the Section 8 to Homeownership initiative). NeighborWorks America supports this program by providing training, technical assistance and financial support in more than 300 communities. NeighborWorks America plans to focus on building strong partnerships between public housing authorities and members of its NeighborWorks organizations.

Program

Since 2001, NeighborWorks America has used $25 million in congressional appropriations to help public housing authorities assist families using Section 8 assistance for homeownership. The majority of the congressional appropriation has been used for capacity-building grants, in recognition that some NeighborWorks organizations may need to tailor their prepurchase and postpurchase services to the specific needs of housing choice voucher homebuyers.
