Our Los Angeles symposium featured an innovative, live-webcasted town hall with audience and national participation on Twitter at #ReclaimHomeownership. The above experts, along with members of the in-person and web audiences, engaged in a lively discussion of the challenges and opportunities associated with the symposium's three major focus areas:

  • Changing the public narrative on affordable homeownership
  • Considering the future of affordable homeownership lending
  • Identifying new business models for sustainable homeownership services

The symposium kicked off with a keynote address by Eric Belsky of the Joint Center for Housing Studies of Harvard University, followed by a dynamic panel discussion entitled "Homeownership Strategies for a New Era." Carol Galante, Acting Federal Housing Administration (FHA) Commissioner and Assistant Secretary for Housing, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, addressed the participants during the luncheon. Following the town hall (above), the event closed with an uplifting presentation by Consuelo Castillo Kickbusch, who spoke passionately about leadership and the role of housing in the American Dream.

Symposium Video Contest: $5,000 in Prizes Were Awarded at the Symposium!

The video contest was designed to provide an opportunity for nonprofit housing counseling agencies to creatively portray, through the use of video, what homeownership has meant to the customers they have served in the past, or the dream it represents to customers they are currently serving.
