NeighborWorks Training Institute
Atlanta Sunrise
Atlanta, GA • February 16-20, 2009

The Atlanta Training Institute continues to deliver.

NeighborWorks America returned to Atlanta, GA, to bring you another great week of top-quality neighborhood revitalization training. The Homeownership Symposium Preparing Organizations to Lead in the New Era of Homeownership on Wednesday, February 18, examined the recent and critical changes in the homeownership arena. Panelists discussed the latest housing recovery legislation and what it will mean to your neighborhoods and organizations.

President Obama makes appearance at Atlanta Symposium

The Atlanta Homeownership Symposium provided live streaming of President Obama's Homeowner Affordability and Stability Plan announcement. As luncheon speaker Mike Calhoun (Center for Responsible Lending) concluded his presentation on "Tightening Credit and the Changing Financial Market," symposium attendees watched on widescreen as President Obama outlined his plan to help families avoid foreclosure by restructuring or refinancing their mortgages. The key elements of Obama's plan are:

  • 1. GSE refinancing for responsible homeowners suffering from falling home prices
  • 2. $75 billion homeowner stability initiative to reach 3 to 4 million At-Risk Homeowners
  • 3. Supporting low mortgage rates by strengthening confidence in Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.
